The National Observatory on Labor Market and Social Protection Affairs, under the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population, recently hosted a meeting with the World Bank mission to discuss the Azerbaijan Employment Support Project (AESP).
Anar Aliyev, Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Protection of Population, highlighted the importance of the AESP in expanding the self-employment program, which provides vulnerable groups in Azerbaijan with opportunities to start small businesses and pursue entrepreneurial ventures.
During the meeting, the role of the National Observatory in monitoring, analyzing, and forecasting labour market trends, social protection, and employment was emphasized. The importance of the Observatory’s contribution to the preparation of the household survey for the project was also noted, underscoring the value of the ongoing collaboration.
Mirey Ovadiya, the World Bank’s chief expert on social protection, and Sırma Demir Şeker, the chief economist, expressed their appreciation for the strong partnership with the Observatory. They highlighted the potential for continued cooperation in the areas of survey design and data analysis, noting the value of this collaboration for future project outcomes.
The meeting concluded with discussions on further cooperation between the National Observatory and the World Bank mission in areas such as research, analysis, and knowledge exchange, with a focus on strengthening partnerships and expertise in social protection and employment support initiatives.
